Tenacious D (aka The Greatest Rock Band in the World) returns with a new mini-movie

No, this is not just a Tribute. The D is back. Six years after the cult rock comedy The Pick of Destiny hit the theaters, Jack Black and Kyle Gass are releasing a new album, called Rize of the Fenix, in May. And to promote it, they released a six-minute-long mini-movie on Youtube, obviously hoping that the powers of social media make it a viral success.

The video shows the band’s reunion, and their struggles to get back to their old level in order to record a new album. This is a clear nod to their relatively long absence prior to this moment. The duo, who started back in ’97 with the eponymous tv-series on HBO, are returning from a three-year-long break from touring. With The Rize of the Fenix hitting the shelves on May 15th, the band is ready for more musical ass-kicking, starting with gigs at Rock am Ring/Rock im Park in Germany and the Download Festival in England. And since Rize of the Fenix is being referred to as “the greatest album ever recorded by anyone. Ever”, there will be lots of D to look forward to in the near future. “That’s not opinion. That’s fact.”

  • Even though "To Be The Best" only lasts six minutes, it features a large number of celebrity cameos. To name a few: Val Kilmer, Dave Grohl and Josh Groban.
  • Check out the album cover for some hidden Tenacious D humor. I bet you'd like to have a taste of that. (Pun most definitely intended)
