Ever wanted to take a sneak peek behind the curtains of your
favorite show? Well, this week might be your chance. Today Dutch television
station RTL4 is starting a big social media campaign called RTL Tweetweek.
From the 25th of February to the the 2nd
of March, numerous RTL-celebs will be posting exclusive behind the scenes info on
Twitter during their shows. Notable shows include: 'Ik Hou van Holland', 'GTST',
'Life4You', 'RTL Boulevard', 'RTL Nieuws' and many more. Every day you can see which
programs are participating on the special website www.rtltweetweek.nl. But the content doesn’t
stop there, RTL Tweetweek gives you more.
In the half hour
after the program has ended, you will have the chance to ask questions to one of the stars. Q&A’s are possible with Jan de Hoop ('RTL Ontbijtnieuws'), Peter
van der Vorst ('Mijn Leven in Puin') and a boatload of 'GTST'-actors (Ferri
Somogyi, Gigi Ravelli, Everon Jackson Hooi and Marjolein Keunig). There is but
one setback, an account on Twitter is a necessity.
The fact that RTL4 uses Twitter to reach the audience is not
really a surprise. It already features as a medium where people share their
thoughts about what they just watched. These thoughts can now be organized with
the help of the central hastag #rtltweetweek. Additionally, the celebrities in
question already had Twitter accounts prior to the event, making it much
easier to organize due to the large amount of followers. For anyone
particularly interested in RTL Tweetweek, the account @RTLTweetweek was
created. This serves as the central hub of all things related to the social
media event.
It seems that RTL sees huge possibilities in Twitter, probably with regard to increasing people’s
emotional involvement in their line-up. In the end, it’s all about the ratings
and it will be interesting to see if the RTL Tweetweek-experiment pays off. Either
way, the effect on social media use in television as a whole could be big.
